Vaccination Advice and Card Review with a Child Specialist Doctor at Behala

A blank box on the card, a dose missed during a fever or the Pujas, a list of "optional" vaccines nobody explained. Bring the card to a child specialist doctor at Behala and leave knowing what is due next. At MCR Super Speciality Polyclinic & Pathology, this is a vaccination advice and schedule review visit with a paediatrician.

Book now: call or WhatsApp 9830525004, or tap Book Now on the Paediatrics Department page. Say "vaccination review" and your child's age when you call.

Who you can see

  • Doctor – Experience – Languages – Fee

  • Dr. Debangana Chatterjee – 6 years of experience in child health and immunisation – Bengali, Hindi, English – Rs 800

  • Dr. Agnik Chattopadhyay – 13 years of paediatric experience in preventive and acute care – Bengali, Hindi, English – Rs 800

Both are paediatricians (spelt "pediatrician" in US English). We confirm each doctor's timing when you book. All MCR paediatricians are on the Paediatrics Department page.

Put these in your bag

  • The vaccination card, or clear photos of both sides

  • Slips or stickers from vaccines given elsewhere

  • The birth discharge summary, for babies

  • A note of any reaction after earlier doses

What the review covers

  • Card check. Each entry is matched against India's Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) and the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) schedule, to find gaps or doubled doses.

  • Catch-up plan for a missed vaccine. For most vaccines, a late dose means carrying on, not starting again. Some, such as rotavirus vaccine, have age limits, and for others the number of doses changes when started late, so the plan is made for your child.

  • Optional vaccines to discuss. Yearly flu vaccine, typhoid conjugate vaccine, hepatitis A, chickenpox, and MMR in place of the free MR vaccine (it also protects against mumps). You decide with the doctor.

  • HPV vaccine. From 9 years (2 doses if started between 9 and 14 years), for girls and, if you wish, boys. Ask whether your daughter can get HPV vaccine free at a government centre.

  • Where to get each dose. UIP vaccines are free at government hospitals and health centres; optional vaccines are usually given privately.

  • Unwell on the due date? A mild cold is usually not a reason to delay; the doctor will say if waiting is better.

  • Lost card. Ask the hospital or centre that gave the doses for their records first. Doses given at government centres from 2024 onwards may also be on the U-WIN portal. If a dose cannot be confirmed, the doctor may advise giving it again, which is usually safe.

  • Tests in the same building. Any blood or urine test the doctor advises can be done at MCR's own pathology lab.

Go to a hospital emergency instead, any day or night, if your child:

  • has trouble breathing, swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or spreading hives, especially soon after an injection

  • has a fit, or turns floppy, pale or very hard to wake

  • has blue or grey lips, or cold, blotchy skin

  • has a rash of purple or dark red spots that does not fade when you press a glass on it

  • has a stiff neck, or a baby has a bulging soft spot on the head

  • a baby is not feeding, or has far fewer wet nappies than usual

  • has repeated or green vomiting, bouts of crying that cannot be settled or tummy pain with legs drawn up, or blood in the stool

  • is under 3 months old with a temperature of 38°C (100.4°F) or more

  • is bitten, scratched, or licked on broken skin by a dog, cat, monkey or other animal, even a vaccinated pet: wash the wound at once with soap under running water for about 15 minutes. Do not put turmeric, chilli, oil or any other home remedy on it, and do not bandage it tightly. Then go straight to a hospital for rabies vaccine, and rabies immunoglobulin if the doctor advises. Do not wait, especially if the bite bleeds or is on the face, head or hands.

See a doctor within 24 hours if, after a vaccine, fever lasts more than 2 days, your baby cries for 3 hours or more without settling, or redness and swelling at the injection site keeps growing after 2 to 3 days.

For fever or soreness after a vaccine, give only the medicine and dose your child's doctor advised. Do not give antibiotics or leftover medicines, and do not rub oil or apply home remedies on the injection site.

Quick answers

My child missed a vaccine months ago. Do we start again? Usually not. For most vaccines the doctor continues from the last recorded dose. Book soon, as a few vaccines have age limits.

Can my child be vaccinated at MCR? Please ask when you book. This visit is for advice and schedule review; the doctor will tell you where each due dose can be given, including free government centres.

Do we need every optional vaccine? Not necessarily. It depends on your child's age, health and past doses; the doctor explains the options so you can decide.

My child had a fever after the last vaccine. Can the next dose still be given? Usually, yes. Mild fever, fussiness or soreness after a dose is common and is not usually a reason to skip the next one. Tell the doctor about any reaction, especially a severe allergic reaction, a fit or crying for 3 hours or more after an earlier dose, so the plan can be made safely.
