Our oncologists are Dr. Sanchayan Mandal (medical oncology) and Dr. Anindita Ray (radiation oncology). A consultation can help you:

Understand a new diagnosis and your reports, such as biopsy and scan reports
Learn about treatment options, such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and targeted therapy, and where they can be given
Get a second opinion on a treatment plan

Manage side effects such as tiredness, nausea and low blood counts

Blood tests during treatment, such as a CBC (complete blood count), can be done at our lab, and home blood collection is available.

Signs that should be checked by a doctor

Most of these have causes other than cancer, but do not ignore them:

A lump in the breast, neck, armpit or elsewhere
Weight loss you cannot explain
A sore or ulcer, including in the mouth, that does not heal in three weeks
A cough or hoarse voice lasting more than three weeks, or coughing up blood
Blood in the urine or stool, or a lasting change in bowel habits
Trouble swallowing
Bleeding from the vagina after menopause or between periods
A mole that changes in size, shape or colour

Preparing for your visit

Bring all your reports, biopsy reports, scan films or CDs, discharge summaries and a list of the medicines you take. It helps to bring a family member, and to write down your questions beforehand.

Frequently asked questions

Is chemotherapy or radiotherapy given at MCR?

MCR offers consultations. If you need chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery, the oncologist will explain the plan and where the treatment can be given.

Can I get a second opinion?

Yes. Bring your reports and current treatment plan, and the oncologist will go through them with you.

Should I get screened for cancer?

Ask a doctor about screening that suits your age and family history, such as cervical screening for women.
