When to see a cardiologist

Palpitations: a racing, pounding or irregular heartbeat (if they come with chest pain, fainting or breathlessness, treat it as an emergency)
High blood pressure (a very high reading with severe headache, chest pain, breathlessness, confusion, weakness or blurred vision needs emergency care: call 112)
Breathlessness on exertion or when lying flat (sudden or severe breathlessness, or breathlessness at rest, is an emergency: call 112)
A heart check-up if you have diabetes or high cholesterol, smoke, or have a family history of heart disease
Dizziness or fainting spells (if you faint during exercise, or fainting comes with chest pain, palpitations or breathlessness, call 112 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department)

Follow-up of a known heart condition, and review of earlier reports

I have chest pain. Should I book a clinic appointment?

Which heart tests can I have at the clinic?

ECG and Holter monitoring are available at the clinic, and samples for blood tests can be given here. The cardiologist will advise which tests you need. If you need a test that we do not offer, the doctor will tell you where it can be done.

What is a Holter test?

A Holter monitor is a small, portable ECG recorder that you wear, usually for 24 to 48 hours, while you go about your normal day. It records your heartbeat continuously, which helps the doctor find irregular heart rhythms that a short ECG may miss.

Should I see a cardiologist if I have high blood pressure or diabetes?

High blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking and a family history of heart disease all raise the risk of heart disease.
