Online Paediatrician Doctor in Kolkata: Video Consultation for Your Child

How far must you carry an unwell child through city traffic for every small concern? It is a fair question to ask while you search for the best paediatrician doctor in Kolkata, and for many follow-ups and everyday worries, you may not need to travel at all. MCR Super Speciality Polyclinic & Pathology in Behala offers video consultations with two paediatricians, so you can consult from home, the office or even outside the city.

When you compare doctors, check the qualification and fee, and how your child will be examined in person if needed. This page covers all three.

Book now: call or WhatsApp 9830525004 and ask for an online paediatric appointment, or tap Book Now on the Paediatrics Department page.

How the video consultation works

  1. Book by call or WhatsApp, or through Online Consultation. Share your child's age and main concern.

  2. Get ready: latest weight, a temperature log, photos of any rash, and recent reports and prescriptions.

  3. Join the call from a quiet, well-lit room. A parent or guardian stays on the call; India's telemedicine guidelines expect this for a minor.

  4. Next step: advice, a prescription where suitable, a test, or a request to bring your child in.

Who you can see online

Paediatrician, pediatrician (the US spelling) or child specialist doctor: all mean a doctor for children.

  • Doctor – Qualification – Consults – Fee

  • Dr. Kaustav Banerjee – MBBS, MD (Paediatrics) – Online – Rs 650

  • Dr. Sharlin Matin – MBBS, MD (Paediatrics) – Online – Rs 800

For an examination, see our in-clinic paediatricians on the Paediatrics Department page.

What suits a video consultation

  • A follow-up after a clinic visit (do not stop prescribed medicines on your own)

  • Reading blood or urine reports alongside your child's symptoms

  • Feeding: breastfeeding, starting solids at around six months, a fussy toddler

  • Sleep, routines and screen time

  • A mild rash without fever in a child who is otherwise well, shown in clear photos (a rash that does not fade when pressed, or comes with swelling of the face or lips, is an emergency)

  • Which vaccine is due under India's national schedule and the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) schedule (vaccines are always given in person)

  • A first talk about speech or behaviour

What needs an in-person visit

A doctor on video cannot examine the ears, chest or tummy. Book a clinic visit, at MCR or near you if you live far away, for:

  • fever beyond two to three days, or fever with body ache in the dengue season

  • ear pain, a sore throat with fever, or a worsening cough

  • a rash with fever, or tummy pain that does not settle

  • yellow skin or eyes in a newborn (the same day). Go to a hospital emergency if the yellow appears in the first 24 hours of life, reaches the palms and soles, or the baby is feeding poorly or very sleepy. Pale or chalky stools in a yellow baby also need a same-day visit.

  • any fever in a baby aged 3 to 6 months, or any other illness in a baby under 6 months (the same day)

  • a growth concern

Go to a hospital emergency instead, without waiting for a video call, if your child:

  • is under 3 months old with a temperature of 38°C (100.4°F) or more

  • is a baby under 2 months who feels cold, or has a temperature below 35.5°C (95.9°F)

  • cannot drink or breastfeed, or refuses all feeds

  • has a fit (seizure), even if it has stopped

  • breathes fast or with effort, or the lips look blue

  • is very drowsy, floppy or hard to wake

  • has a stiff neck, a bulging soft spot on the head, or a severe headache with fever

  • has a rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass

  • has sudden swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or noisy breathing or wheeze after a food, medicine or insect sting

  • keeps vomiting, has severe tummy pain, any bleeding (gums, nose, blood in vomit or black stools) or cold, clammy hands and feet, is restless, or passes very little urine. In dengue, these signs often appear just as the fever settles.

  • has swallowed medicine, poison or a button battery

Do not wait for clinic hours or an online slot. If your child is having a fit, cannot breathe properly or cannot be woken, call 112, India's emergency number, for an ambulance.

Quick answers

Can I book from outside Kolkata? Yes. If the doctor feels your child needs an examination, you will be asked to visit MCR or a paediatrician near you.

What if my child is asleep or too upset at call time? Tell the doctor at the start. Much can be discussed with you first, and the doctor may ask to see your child once they are calm, because how a child looks and breathes matters. A parent or guardian stays on the call throughout.

Can the doctor prescribe medicines on a video call? Sometimes. Under India's telemedicine guidelines, a doctor can prescribe some medicines after a video consult, but may decide that your child needs to be examined first. That is a safety step. Please do not give leftover antibiotics while you wait.
