Paediatrician Doctor in Behala for Child Fever and Infections
Fever on day three, an ear that hurts at night, burning while passing urine: common reasons parents look for a paediatrician doctor in Behala. At MCR Super Speciality Polyclinic & Pathology, a paediatrician examines your child, and any blood or urine test the doctor advises can be done at MCR's own pathology lab in the same building.
Book now: call or WhatsApp 9830525004, or tap Book Now on the Paediatrics Department page. Tell us your child's age and how long the fever has lasted.
First check: clinic visit or hospital emergency?
MCR is a clinic with set hours, not an emergency department.
Go to a hospital emergency instead, straight away, if your child:
is a baby under 3 months with a temperature of 38°C (100.4°F) or more
is a baby with a bulging soft spot on the head, or a young baby who feels unusually cold (temperature below 35.5°C)
has a fit (seizure), or is very drowsy, floppy or hard to wake
breathes fast or with effort, has the chest pulling in, or has bluish lips
has a rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass, a stiff neck, or a cry you cannot settle
is not able to drink or breastfeed, or vomits everything
shows signs of dehydration: very dry mouth, no tears, sunken eyes, or little or no urine in 6 hours (baby) or 8 hours (older child)
has severe tummy pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding gums or nose, blood in vomit, black or bloody stools, or cold, clammy hands and feet during or after a fever
has fever and a long-term condition such as thalassaemia or sickle cell disease (especially after spleen removal), heart disease, cancer treatment, long-term steroids or low immunity
At night or on a Sunday, do not wait for the clinic to open.
Book a same-day visit if your baby is 3 to 6 months old and has any fever. If no paediatrician is free that day, or the clinic is closed, take your baby to a hospital. A baby under 3 months with a fever should go to a hospital emergency, as above.
Call to book a visit within a day or two if the fever lasts beyond 2 to 3 days or keeps returning, or comes with ear pain, cough, burning urine, loose motions, a new rash, or body ache in the rainy season. We will tell you which paediatrician is in that day.
Who you can see
A paediatrician (also spelt pediatrician) is a child specialist doctor whose training and work focus on the health of babies, children and teenagers. When you book, you can ask for any of these MCR paediatricians:
Dr. Agnik Chattopadhyay: 13 years of paediatric experience, focused on preventive and acute care. Speaks Bengali, Hindi and English. Fee Rs 800.
Dr. Dikpati Mukherjee: 12 years of experience managing childhood illnesses and development. Speaks Bengali, Hindi and English. Fee Rs 800.
Dr. Debangshi Ghosh (MBBS, MD): in clinic on Thursday and Saturday, 11 AM / 6 PM (please confirm the session time when booking). Fee Rs 500.
See all MCR paediatricians on the Paediatrics Department page.
What we help with
Fever without an obvious cause, or fever that keeps returning
Throat, ear and chest infections
Loose motions and vomiting, with a check for dehydration
Urine infections, which can hide behind a fever in small children
Fever with a rash, such as chickenpox or measles (if you suspect either, please tell us when booking so your child does not wait beside babies or pregnant women)
Monsoon fevers, where the doctor may consider dengue or malaria
Tests in the same building, only when advised
Many childhood fevers are viral and need no test. The paediatrician examines your child first and decides whether a test will help and when, since some, such as dengue tests, depend on the day of fever. If a test is advised, it can be done at MCR's own lab in the same building.
Please do not start leftover or chemist-shop antibiotics before the visit; they can hide the real cause of a fever.
During a fever, especially in the monsoon, do not give aspirin, ibuprofen, mefenamic acid or other painkillers unless a doctor advises them; if your child has dengue, these can increase the risk of bleeding. Ask the doctor which fever medicine suits your child and the right dose for their weight.

Quick answers
Does every child with fever need a blood test? No. The doctor decides after examining your child.
The fever comes down with medicine, then returns. Should I still book? Yes, if it has lasted beyond 2 to 3 days or keeps coming back. A returning fever needs an examination even if your child seems better in between. Please do not start leftover or chemist-shop antibiotics while you wait.
My child is improving. Can the follow-up be on video? Often, if the doctor who examined your child agrees. Online consultation suits follow-ups and report questions; a new fever usually needs an in-person examination.
