Cara, the skin and hair clinic of MCR Super Speciality Polyclinic & Pathology at 11A Sourin Roy Road, near Behala Tram Depot, Kolkata, offers hair transplant. Every hair transplant starts with a consultation with a dermatologist, who finds out why your hair is thinning and whether a transplant is the right choice for you.

What a hair transplant is
In a hair transplant, healthy hair follicles are moved from the back or sides of the scalp (the donor area), where hair usually keeps growing, to areas that are thinning. It is done under local anaesthesia, which numbs the scalp, so most people stay awake. The follicles are taken either one by one (FUE, follicular unit extraction) or as a thin strip of skin (FUT, follicular unit transplantation). Taking them one by one avoids a long, narrow scar. At your consultation, the doctor explains the method that will be used and why.
Who may be suitable
hair loss that follows a pattern, such as a receding hairline or thinning at the crown, in men or women
enough healthy hair at the back and sides of the scalp to move
hair loss that has slowed down: young men in their 20s may be advised to start medicine first and wait
good general health
A transplant is usually not the first step when hair fall has a treatable cause, such as a thyroid problem, low iron or a recent illness, or when hair falls out in patches (alopecia areata). The aim is thicker, fuller hair in the thinning areas; a full head of hair is not always possible.
Before a hair transplant
The dermatologist examines your scalp and asks about your hair loss, health and medicines. You may be advised blood tests to rule out other causes; samples can be given at our pathology lab at the clinic. If a transplant may suit you, the doctor explains the plan, the likely number of grafts and sessions, and the cost, which depends on the area to be covered.
After a hair transplant: what to expect
The scalp may be sore, swollen or scabbed for a few days. You get instructions for washing and caring for it at home.
Between two and eight weeks after the procedure, the transplanted hair falls out. This is normal: the follicles stay in the scalp.
New hair starts to grow after a few months. Most people see results six to nine months after the procedure; for some it takes about a year.
Hair around the transplanted area can keep thinning, so your dermatologist may also advise medicine to protect your existing hair.
PRP and GFC for hair
Cara also offers PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and GFC (growth factor concentrate) for hair. For both, a small amount of your own blood is taken and processed, and the concentrate is injected into the thinning areas of the scalp. They may help some people with patterned hair thinning, on their own or along with a transplant. Several sessions are usually needed, and results vary from person to person. Questions people ask
Will transplanted hair last?
Hair moved from the donor area usually keeps growing for many years. The hair around it can continue to thin, so you may need medicine or another procedure later. Your dermatologist will explain what to expect.
Does a hair transplant hurt?
The scalp is numbed with local anaesthesia, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. It may feel sore for a few days afterwards.
Can women have a hair transplant?
Yes, some women with thinning hair are suitable, but the cause of the hair loss must be checked first.
How much does a hair transplant cost?
It depends on the area to be covered and the number of grafts needed. The doctor gives you an estimate after examining your scalp.
